Where understanding comes first

Specialist adult ADHD assessment

A considered assessment starts with your experience, your history and the questions you want to understand.

A diagnosis deserves more than a checklist.

A thoughtful assessment considers the person behind the symptoms. Your psychiatrist explores your history, circumstances and functioning across professional, academic and personal life. Questionnaires can inform that process; they are not the whole answer.

The aim is to understand whether ADHD offers an appropriate explanation—not to reach a predetermined diagnosis.

What the conversation explores

  • Your concerns and the situations in which difficulties arise.
  • Your history and how things have changed over time.
  • The effect on professional, academic and personal life.
  • The wider picture, including other possible explanations.

Stress, sleep difficulties, anxiety, depression and other factors can produce overlapping experiences. More than one factor may be involved.

From questions to understanding

  1. Start with an enquiry. Ask whether the service is appropriate for you.
  2. Meet your psychiatrist. Discuss your concerns, history and current circumstances.
  3. Explore the wider picture. Consider how symptoms affect different areas of life.
  4. Understand the outcome. Discuss the findings and relevant next steps.

Before arranging an appointment

Ask the team to confirm the clinician, appointment format, fees, current availability, what is included and any follow-up arrangements. You can also ask what information to prepare and whether a referral is needed.

Appointments described on this website are online and for adults aged 18 and over in the UK. An enquiry is not a confirmed booking.
